My marriage proposal led to four visa applications

If you’ve ever had a holiday romance, you’ll know how difficult it is because of distance involved.

Our client Firus went on holiday with a friend to Bandung in Indonesia where he met Devi.

After eighteen months communicating by email and WhatsApp, they knew they wanted to marry. The process to secure visas led them to seek expert advice and the couple turned to Fizah, our Registered Migration Agent.

They’ve been so impressed with her services, they’ve used her time and time again. Not many clients would allow the same agent to do up to four visa applications in the short span of two years, but for Firus, family came before money.

Long distance romance turns serious

A major challenge for couples in a long-distance relationship is deciding what country they should call home.

“My life is here, and my friends are too. I was seven when I moved from Singapore to Perth and this is my home. Devi is just starting out in her career and gaining financial independence, so it seemed the sensible option for her to move here,” explains Firus.

Firus wanted to bring Devi over to Perth to experience the country first-hand, so together they lodged a tourist visa. They were devastated when it was refused and a personal referral led them to Fizah.

Fizah knew the couple wanted to marry and took into account their future plans, financial position and desire to have a family in Australia. She guided them through a Prospective Marriage Visa application followed by a Visitor Visa so Devi could meet Firus’ Australia family and friends.

Spouse & Visitor visas

Once the couple were married, the next stage was to secure a Spouse Visa application, and this came through within five months. By that time Devi had fallen pregnant.

“I worked away on FIFO and it would be tough for Devi bringing up the baby with me away so much so we asked Fizah about visitor visas for Devi’s parents,” he adds.

Fizah told the couple that all the Visitor Visas would be considered as high-risk applications. She felt there’d be a 50% chance of a success rate, due to both applicants holding Indonesia citizenship with little history of overseas travel.

Much to the couple’s delight the application was approved. Devi’s parents were granted Visitor Visas valid for three years.

Devi’s parents have already spent several months with their new granddaughter and connecting with Firus’ extended family and friends in Australia.

Future plans

And what about the future. What now for the newly expanded family?

“Devi will apply for permanent residency in about a year, and then all being well will move on to secure her citizenship. We’re in a good place now – thanks to the team at Home of Visas. Nothing is more important than family. Home of Visas certainly get the tick of approval from us.”
